National Make Lunch Count Day

By April 11, 2022Uncategorized

Lunch is a meal that is often missed or neglected.  So much so that there is a National Day dedicated to making Lunch Count, it’s on April 13th every year.

As a mother of a small child, I always pack my son’s lunch the night before and ensure he has fruits and veggies, some type of protein, whole grains, and maybe even a little healthy dessert.  His lunchbox looks like a work of art.  My lunchbox, however, consists of a handful of bagged nut mix, some torn off celery sticks, and maybe a boiled egg if I already had one in the fridge.  Half way through the day I wish I had prepared myself better.  Luckily, I work at Cuisine for Healing and I can just buy something nutritious and delicious from our grab and go fridge.  If you pack your lunch like I do, consider putting a little more effort into your lunch to honor National Make Your Lunch Count Day.

Don’t just stop at the one day; try eating a good lunch the entire week to see if you notice a difference in the way you feel. Eating a healthy lunch can help balance your mood, lower stress, and raise your blood sugar to give you an extra boost of energy to get you through the rest of your day.  Studies show that eating lunch can also help maintain a healthy weight by keeping your metabolism stable and active.  Individuals who skip lunch will often make it up at dinner, getting too many calories later in the day, adding to excess weight gain.  Skipping lunch can also lead to making poor decisions about nutrition when you finally do eat.

If you forget your lunch don’t be tempted to cruise by the burger place. Fried and greasy food make you feel bogged down, lethargic, and unproductive.  Treat yourself to clean healthy immune boosting food. Cuisine for Healing has many healthy wrap, sandwich, salad, and soup options available for your lunchtime that will be sure to give you the pickup you need to finish your day. Try some of our lunch options this week like:

  • Spinach and Fresh Fruit Salad with Walnuts, Feta and Roasted Chicken
  • BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich
  • Nutty Cranberry Chicken Salad Sandwich
  • Broccoli Cheese Soup
  • Balsamic Chicken and Goat Cheese Wrap
  • Chicken Pesto Wrap
