National Oatmeal Month

By January 24, 2022January 30th, 2022Uncategorized

Oats are a fan favorite in our kitchen.  We use them in everything from tasty peanut butter poppers and delicious muffins to more savory items like meatloaf and even in the rue for the chicken tetrazzini.  We get awfully creative incorporating oats into our dishes because not only are they inexpensive, they are also extremely healthy.  We decided to take a step back and pay homage to the oat in one of its simplest forms, oatmeal, in honor of National Oatmeal Month.  Check out some of the ways incorporating oatmeal into your diet can also make you healthier.

Oatmeal is loaded with vitamins and minerals like Magnesium, Zinc, Iron, vitamin B1, and phosphorous just to name a few. Eating just 1 cup of oatmeal in the morning can provide 8 grams of fiber, 13 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fat.  All of these nutrition stats make oats one of the most nutritionally dense foods out there.  Oats also have a reputation for aiding in lower cholesterol and blood sugar through increase of fiber, by lowering insulin sensitivity and binding with LDL cholesterol. Whole oats contain also contain compounds that help lower inflammation in the body that results from cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

When choosing your morning oatmeal, go for the oats without the added processed sugar and weird flakes of fruit dust.  Instead, make it your own by adding fresh fruit, honey, or nuts, or stop by Cuisine for Healing and grab some delicious overnight oats right out of the fridge.  Save yourself the time, and save your heart by cutting out that fast food breakfast sandwich.  Your body will thank you later.
