New Year Tips

In the New Year, we often find ourselves wanting to change habits. While some habits may be easy to break, others may not. It is important to set goals that are achievable for yourself, and not based on other people’s goals, start small. Quick and easy ways to change eating habits in your house can be getting smaller plates, having less processed food on hand, substituting desserts with added sugar for fruit or natural sugar alternatives, reduce sweetened beverages, the list can go on. Simply find one area of your diet that you want to make a change in, set a goal, a realistic goal, and begin. Remember if you slip up, miss a day, have a cheat day, or even a week, it is okay. Be sure to pay attention to your body, whether it is hungry or full.

Here are a few tips that may help you achieve your goals this new year

  • Do not skip meals or snacks, you may lose energy if you wait too long to eat or it may lead to overeating
  • Aim for five servings of fruit and vegetables a day
  • Try to get 30 minutes of activity each day, it does not have to be consecutive. Try to include three 10-minute walks
  • Prepare snacks for on the go, limit stopping for fast food or trips to the vending machine at work
  • Keep frozen vegetables in the freezer to always have on hand
  • Buy pre-cut fruits and vegetables, less time will be needed to prepare them
  • Try whole-grain pasta or rice instead of white pasta or rice
  • Increase the amount of water you drink, try to have a reusable cup on hand for on the go or to take to work
  • Order or pick-up meals from Cuisine for Healing if you have a busy week!
